How strong are your Feet?

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

Something I have really noticed working a few hours in a run store is many runners (and people in general) have lost connection with their feet. Their feet have become 'dumb' and the neurological connection between the brain and the feet is not firing as well as it could.

Balance and stability require strength at the hips, but also right through the lower limb chain - your feet are a big part of this strength and stability.

Some simple drills to work on your foot strength is simply lifting your toes off the ground in different sequences.

These are:

  • Big Toe up only

  • Big toe down and all other toes up

  • Toe scrunch

Trust me - these sound easy - but they are not. They will be frustrating, and maybe even cause your feet to cramp. Take your time and keep working on it. If you can't do these exercises then this is a BIG sign that you NEED to work on these to help improve your foot strength and control. You may need to do these manually until you can move your toes how you want.

Let me know how you get on in the comments below!
